It is our opinion that the International Criminal Court must be impartial in it’s handling of war situation evaluations across the globe. There needs to be a clear cut criteria as to what constitutes war crimes and crimes against humanity.
The trend as of now appears to be extremely ambigous and biased against those that are not in good books with the West especially in Africa.A few examples are Laurent Gbagbo, Al Bashir, and late Khadafi who all seem to be at variance with the western world.Khadafi’s dearth still remains a mystery with western forces allegedly implicated in his killing.
Outara,Gbagbo’s opponent in the troubles that erupted after the contentious elections in Ivory coast seems untouchable despite allegations of crimes against humanity on both parties in the aftermath of the National elections, while Gbagbo is at the Hague for trial.
Syria’s Assad and the Bahrainy monarchy are as free as birds despite dispeakable acts of atrocity against unarmed civilians protesting against the corrupt regimes peacefully.Bush and Tonny Blair remain unquestioned over their responsibility for the dearths of multitudes of people in Iraq,Afghanistan, libya and Pakistan.
The above scenarios and much more of the like are indicative of the need for the reformation of the power structures and operations of the United Nations which currently is nothing more than a rubber stamp of the powerful western world.
Promotion and sustenance of Peace requires justice and impartiality in the way matters are dealt with at every level especially internationally. We need to see positive change in the cases and persons the ICC is prosecuting.
The United States of America and Britain must desist from assuming the role of world Police and Judge if we are going to live trouble free lives in the world today. What has made the US a great country has been”goodness”,which it is fast losing for the worse. In his book,Descent into Slavery,Des Griffin – wrote (p267) Alexis De Toqueville, a young French philosopher of the last Centuary came to our shores to discover what magical quality enabled a handful of people to defeat the mighty British Empire twice in 35 years. He looked for the greatness of America in fertile soil, her limitless forests and natural resources. He examined America’s schools, her congress and her unique constitution without fully understanding the source of America’s strength.
It was not, he said later, until he went to the churches of America and found congregations aflame with righteousness, that he began to comprehend the secret of this power.Upon his return to France,De Tocqueville wrote: “America is good and if America stops being good,it will cease to be great.”
The question i now pose to the world’s only supper power is, will it dare take another course and cease to be good at the expense of greatness or remain good and great?Let us all cherish peace and pray for peace! Let us ask the only Prince of peace – Jesus Christ to reign peace in our world.
I send all our readers wishes and prayers for personal peace in the coming year as we enter the”season of divine governmental order and new beginnings.”
